From July 24 to 26, the Jan Wilken Stadium in Walvis Bay transformed into a stage of international archery excellence as Namibia proudly hosted the prestigious AGA World Tournament. Competitors from Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Canada came together to test their skills, focus, and nerve on the global stage.
Among the many athletes representing their nations, four of our very own Roots Gymnasium stars stood tall, carrying not only their bows but the pride of Namibia and our school community.
Rooties Representing Team Namibia
Duan Kruger and Joríne Krügel were selected for the Namibian National Team. This is a prestigious honour that speaks volumes about their talent and dedication to the sport.
Their performance over the three-day tournament was commendable:
Joríne Krügel – Girls Division (National Team):
BullsEye (BE): 34th
3D: 37th
Overall (BE + 3D): 37th
Mixed Rankings (BE + 3D): 72nd overall
Duan Kruger – Boys Division (National Team):
BullsEye (BE): 20th
3D: 9th
Overall (BE + 3D): 13th
Mixed Rankings (BE + 3D): 15th overall
These two young archers competed with poise and grit, placing themselves among the world’s best.

AAG Team Excellence
Equally inspiring were Dominique Bekker and Naudé Kruger, who earned selection for the AAG Team (Adult Archery Group) to represent Namibia.
Their results show admirable strength and consistency in a highly competitive field:
Dominique Bekker – Ladies Division (AAG Team):
BullsEye (BE): 12th
3D: 26th
Overall: 20th
Mixed Rankings (BE + 3D): 48th overall
Naudé Kruger – Men’s Division (AAG Team):
BullsEye (BE): 35th
3D: 39th
Overall: 38th
Mixed Rankings (BE + 3D): 66th overall

A Golden Milestone for Namibian Archery
On July 24th and 25th, all teams shot BullsEye and 3D challenges. The final day, July 26th, brought thrilling action as the top three countries in each division battled it out for podium finishes.
Namibia made history.
The Namibian National Team, with Duan and Joríne as part of its lineup, swept the gold medals in all three categories: BullsEye, 3D, and Overall. And remarkably, the Namibian Development Team did the same. Gold across the board!
This marks the first time in AGA World Tournament history that both the National and Development teams from the same country claimed gold in every division. A proud and unforgettable moment for Namibian sport!
Rooted in Excellence
At Roots Gymnasium, we believe in nurturing not only academic and cultural brilliance, but athletic greatness too. These athletes have proven that commitment, character, and courage can carry you to the world stage.
To each of these archers: We salute your achievement, celebrate your journey, and can’t wait to see where your arrows fly next!
