The Roots Project
Around 10 years ago, in the chalky hills of the Namibian Kalahari, a dream was born – a dream to develop an agricultural village within this barren land.
When the founders, Johan Rieckert and Salomon Kalondo arrived in the small town, Stampriet, they knew this was the place, and immediately began to work on their dream.

Stampriet is situated 300 km south of Namibia’s Capital, Windhoek. The main resource needed to begin this dream, namely water, was not to be a problem as Stampriet lies above an Aquifer (an underground lake), providing more than enough water to sustain the development in mind.

To them, it was important to contribute by making an economic impact and utilizing the resources in such a manner that it not only is a success, but ultimately increases the quality of life for the locals, boosts the local economy, and a stable work environment.

The goal of this multi-million-dollar project is food security: to settle smallholders, provide training, and ultimately require Namibia to be less independent on food import. They focus on adding value to to food chain, with their eye on processing, preservation, and waste reduction by increasing the shelf life of products that normally go to waste. They want to form as much part of the value chain as possible.
